My QRosity gets the better off me.

admin 6 February, 2012

Quite proud of the title of this post.

At a Mobile Monday Manchester meeting back in September last year (2011) QR codes were discussed.  Different designs of QR codes were shown.  This was interesting because I wasn’t aware that these codes could be styled to some extent using colour and even by playing with the shape of the blocks which make the code (rounded corners etc).  I thought the codes had to be strictly black and white to guarantee correct interpretation.  Anyway this got me wondering about QR codes – I had no clue how these codes were created.

I decided to see how easy it is to create my own QR code – turned out it’s a doddle.  After a quick Google I came across this New York Times article.  The article suggests a few URL’s – I used delivr.com.  All of the URL’s suggested by the article are similar – basically you enter the URL you want to represent with a QR code and out pops the image…..e.g.

So in conclusion – it’s easy to make a QR code and make it look pretty (well prettier). Still not seen people using them though ;).
